Discover how to plan your trip to Mallorca the smart way. From Hotel Ankaa in Porto Cristo, we share practical advice to avoid crowds, get around easily, and make the most of your stay.

Planning your trip to Mallorca properly can make all the difference between a chaotic getaway and an unforgettable experience. At Hotel Ankaa, an adults-only boutique hotel in Porto Cristo, we share the same travel advice we give to our guests to help you explore the island in a comfortable, relaxed, and authentic way. Mallorca is much more than sun and sea, and organizing a few details in advance will allow you to enjoy it as it deserves.

Choosing the right time of year is key. Mallorca offers pleasant weather for most of the year, but many travelers prefer to visit between April and June or in September and October, when there are fewer crowds and better prices. At Hotel Ankaa, many of our guests say they particularly enjoy the calm of the low season, when everything moves at a slower pace and it’s easier to explore.

Where you stay will shape your entire experience. If you’re looking for a peaceful area, away from the crowds, close to natural coves and with an authentic feel, the southeast of Mallorca is a great option. Hotel Ankaa, in Porto Cristo, is designed for adults who want to relax, with a boutique atmosphere and personal attention far from large resorts. From here, you can take short trips to coves like Cala Anguila, Cala Varques or Cala Mondragó, and visit charming villages like Santanyí or Felanitx.

Renting a car is almost essential if you want to move freely around the island. Public transport is limited, especially to coves and rural areas. From Porto Cristo you’ll have easy road access to much of the east and southeast coast, and you can reach Palma or the inland areas in less than an hour.

In the summer, getting up early is essential. Roads to the most popular beaches get crowded after mid-morning. Our tip is to leave early, have breakfast, and be on the road by 9 a.m. to avoid traffic and secure a parking spot. Many beaches have free parking that fills up quickly, while others, like Cala Llombards or Cala Mondragó, have private paid lots.

Some beaches require planning when it comes to parking. For example, if you want to visit Es Trenc, the best option is to park in the public lot at Ses Covetes. It’s paid and you’ll need to walk about 15 to 20 minutes. There are also private lots closer to the beach, but they’re more expensive. Comfortable shoes, water, and a sunhat are a must.

Some coves, like Caló des Moro, have become so popular that we only recommend visiting in the off-season. In July and August, parking is nearly impossible, and the number of visitors is controlled. If you come in months like April, May, or October, the experience is completely different: calm, accessible, and much more enjoyable.

Plan your days carefully. Try to combine beach days with visits to villages, hiking routes, local food experiences or weekly markets. At Hotel Ankaa we’re happy to help you organize custom activities or suggest lesser-known spots that don’t usually appear in travel guides.

Frequently Asked Questions About Traveling to Mallorca

Is it necessary to rent a car to explore Mallorca?

Yes. Especially if you’re staying outside of Palma or want to visit coves and villages. From Hotel Ankaa in Porto Cristo, having a car gives you easy access to nearby places like Cala Magraner, Cala Anguila or even Es Trenc and Santanyí.

Is there heavy traffic in Mallorca during the summer?

Yes. Roads to the most visited beaches and tourist areas get very congested, especially between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. That’s why we recommend leaving the hotel early, ideally before 8:30 a.m., to avoid traffic and make the most of your day.

Where can I park if I’m going to Es Trenc beach?

The best option is the public parking lot in Ses Covetes, which is paid. From there, it’s a 15–20 minute walk. There are also private parking options closer to the beach, with higher rates.

Is Caló des Moro worth visiting?

Yes, but it’s best to avoid it during peak season. In the off-season, parking is easier and the experience is much more pleasant and quiet.

How much do beach parking lots cost?

It depends on the beach. Some are free but fill up early. Others, like Cala Llombards or Mondragó, are paid and usually cost between 5 and 7 euros per day.

What should I bring for a beach day?

You should bring water, some food, sunscreen, a hat or umbrella, and comfortable shoes in case there’s a walk from the parking lot. Some coves have no facilities or shade.

What’s the best area to stay in Mallorca to avoid crowds?

The southeast of Mallorca, especially around Porto Cristo, is one of the island’s quietest regions. Hotel Ankaa offers an adults-only experience, ideal for travelers looking for peace, great location, and a refined, uncrowded environment.
